Asher White Takes a Bold Step by Reimagining Jessica Pratt's Debut Album
Asher White has elevated her admiration for Jessica Pratt to an exciting new level by unveiling a complete cover of Pratt's 2012 self-titled debut album. This move has garnered significant appreciation from Pratt herself, who expressed her surprise at White’s unique interpretations in a recent press release. "White’s curiously inventive renditions took me by surprise," Pratt stated. "They showcase a wide stylistic range and production diversity. It’s not merely an homage; it stands as a record in its own right." Along with this release, fans can also look forward to an upcoming tour featuring White. Be sure to check out her complete tour schedule and listen to the newly released cover album below.
While every original song on Jessica Pratt was penned by the artist herself, White adds her personal touch to each track. She skillfully plays over a dozen instruments, including electric and acoustic guitars, banjo, bass, drums, various electronics, percussion, prepared piano, string arrangements, synthesizers, and programming. Notably, Bee Clark contributes vocals on the track "Casper," while Lila Lifton adds violin to "Midnight Wheels." This covers album follows White’s previous work, 8 Tips for Full Catastrophe Living, released in 2025.
White first stumbled upon Jessica Pratt’s debut album just before turning 21, and she quickly became enamored with it. "At some point, I had listened to that record so many times that I began to unconsciously sing imaginary harmonies along with it or hear arrangements that weren’t actually there," White recounted. "Eventually, these imagined arrangements felt compelling enough that I decided to turn this creative exercise into reality by learning the entire album. This reflects the music’s enduring power, its flexibility, simplicity, and how profoundly it has impacted my life."
In May, White is set to embark on a headline tour along the West Coast, stopping in cities such as San Diego, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and more. Before that, she will make an appearance in Brooklyn on April 28.
