The Washington Capitals are eyeing a bold move that could shake up the league! Rumors are swirling that they're targeting Brayden Schenn, the veteran center from the St. Louis Blues, as the trade deadline approaches. But is this the right move for the Capitals?

Schenn, a seasoned leader and captain of the Blues, might be up for grabs as the team's general manager, Doug Armstrong, considers a significant roster overhaul. With a disappointing 18-21-8 record this season, the Blues are five points adrift of the San Jose Sharks in the race for the second wild card spot in the West.
Armstrong is rumored to be open to offers for nearly the entire team, aiming to inject youth and accumulate draft picks. Schenn, along with Colton Parayko, Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Justin Faulk, Pius Suter, Oskar Sundqvist, and Mathieu Joseph, could all be on the trading block.
At 34, Schenn is a versatile forward with an impressive resume. He's spent nine seasons with the Blues since his trade from the Philadelphia Flyers in 2017. Capable of playing both center and wing, Schenn has already notched 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) in 47 games this season. He's a consistent performer with eight 50-point seasons under his belt, including a 50-point campaign (18 goals, 32 assists) last year.
A Stanley Cup winner with the Blues in 2019, Schenn has been a clutch performer in the playoffs, accumulating 43 points (13 goals, 30 assists) in 82 postseason games. This season, he's averaging over 16 minutes of ice time per game and has been dominant in the faceoff circle, winning more than 54% of his draws.
The Capitals, currently lacking a reliable center, could find a solution in Schenn. Head coach Spencer Carbery has been cautious with 23-year-old forward Hendrix Lapierre, who's averaged under eight minutes of ice time in December and January.
