NMC Healthcare's Big Recruitment Drive: 1,500 Jobs in the UAE (2026)

In a bold move towards recovery, NMC Healthcare is set to welcome 1,500 new employees in the UAE this year, signaling a significant turnaround following a tumultuous period of financial challenges that nearly led to its downfall. After grappling with financial discrepancies that nearly brought the organization to its knees, NMC Healthcare is now on a path to stability, and part of this strategy includes a robust hiring initiative.

David Hadley, the CEO of NMC Healthcare, shared insights during an interview with Khaleej Times, stating, "We are anticipating growth within our existing facilities. From the beginning of last year through this year, we plan to onboard around 200 doctors. For every two doctors, we will likely require additional support staff, which brings our total potential hires to approximately 1,200 to 1,500 people this year, particularly as we pursue acquisitions."

Currently, NMC Healthcare employs between 11,500 and 12,000 individuals across its various locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and other emirates. Founded in 1975, the healthcare group was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2012 but faced delisting due to financial irregularities and has since operated under creditor administration led by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. The company has undergone significant restructuring efforts in recent years to regain its footing.

But here’s where it gets controversial: How does a company recover from such a serious breach of trust? After the financial scandals that plagued NMC in 2020, the organization found itself battling credibility issues with creditors and suppliers alike. Following the appointment of the administration, a committee of lenders took decisive action to implement stringent regulatory and ethical standards while introducing advanced technology aimed at preventing future discrepancies.

Christopher Habib, the chief strategy officer at NMC Healthcare, explained, "We have established various committees throughout the group to ensure decision-making is not concentrated in the hands of a single individual. Instead, a collective of accountable individuals makes these decisions, all of whom report to the board for proper oversight. This governance framework was nonexistent before, but now we've created a system that makes it exceedingly difficult for such issues to arise again."

Adding to the complexity, Habib highlighted a critical transition within the organization: "Our hospitals were previously operating largely independently, each led by a general manager responsible for decisions like staffing and service offerings. This autonomy led to a scenario where two hospitals located just 15 minutes apart were competing against one another instead of collaborating."

He continued, "Over the past two years, we've focused on transforming NMC into a cohesive hospital group rather than merely a collection of standalone hospitals. Now, everything is more organized and structured. Employees have clear key performance indicators (KPIs), and there is a well-defined organizational structure and operational model in place to guide the company forward. This level of functionality should have been established long ago."

Earlier reports from Khaleej Times indicated that NMC's creditors would ultimately divest and sell the company, although the specific path shareholders might take remains uncertain, according to Hadley. Moreover, he mentioned that the organization is actively exploring potential acquisition opportunities within the UAE and considering a rebranding strategy.
